How Do I Love You? Let me count the days.

I’ve never been a fan of Valentine’s Day until I had my children. My husband has a lot of wonderful qualities but Valentine’s gift giving isn’t one of them (sorry sweetie!) Everything was so fun and new with my first daughter. Cupid would come in February, Lucky the leprechaun came in March and Turkey Lurkey on Thanksgiving.
Decorating my home for holidays has always been important to me, even before my girls. A few years ago, I was confined to the house with an injury so I decided to make some new Valentine decorations. The paper heart chains came from my love of books and pretty things.
I free handed the hearts, sewed them together on my sewing machine and hung them in my window. Not only are they pretty from the inside and out, but when the heat registers come on, it makes the hearts sway gently, almost like they are dancing. My favorite time to watch them is in the afternoon, just before the sun sets and the glow is warm and orange on the hearts. When the heat registers blow and the hearts dance, they make the most beautiful shadows on the wall.
Every year on February 1, the hearts are hung in the window. It’s a tradition my children love. I like that it was almost free and creates good feelings and happy memories for our family.
Bonus Idea:
As a surprise for your kids tomorrow morning, cut some hearts and hang them on string from the window, ceiling, or the door to their room
