drop everything and read. D.E.A.R.
For family night tonight: read!
We love reading at our house and almost everyday there is someone, somewhere in a nook or on a couch reading a book.
To make it a family activity you could:
*have everyone grab their own book they would like to read, put a fire in the fireplace, gather pillows and blankets, make some treats like these chocolate chip cookies and let each person read their own book while the whole family gets comfortable in the same room…but in different worlds.
*decide on one book as a family and a person to read the story out loud while everyone else lays around on the couches with pillows and blankets listening to the story unfold and munching on a delicious treat.
We definitely have some out-loud-reading-as-a-family-favorites.
Here’s a little list:
*The Chronicles of Narnia
*Harry Potter series
*Shannon Hale books (1000 Days, The Goose Girl, Enna Burning)
*Kate DiCamillo books (The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Because of Winn-Dixie, The Magician’s Elephant)
*The Invention of Hugo Cabret (over three years ago this is the book that got my kids so excited about reading out loud together)
*Ramona Quimby books
*Ivy and Bean books
*The Giver (a must read)
*The Secret Garden
*Pollyanna
Happy Reading!

This is such a good idea! I am going to have to do this with my little ones, I want them to have that love of reading like I did when I was little!
It’s been a while since we’ve read a novel together as a family, and I miss it! There are so many I want to share with my children. Going to get started on a new one tonight!
