Every afternoon these days the kids are out in the woods until dark.
The second everyone has their homework done, lunches are made, chores are finished, and backpacks are ready, they are out the door.
Our backyard is at the edge of green space, woods that no one is allowed to build on, and it’s one of the primary reasonwe bought our home.
Last summer Emmett and some of his friends worked for days to build a zipline out in the woods behind our house. For a while that’s where they could all be found everyday. And then someone came and vandalized it.
Recently, the zipline was repaired and ever since then Emmett, the girls, and a bunch of kids from the neighborhood are out their every afternoon.
Fears have been conquered and bravery has reigned. Changes have happened over the last few weeks.
I love that the woods and friends inspire confidence and compassion.
So…is there a place you could build a zipline for your family activity?
Here are two places you can check out for your zipline project. One. Two.

Great pictures, and what fun! I grew up with woods in my backyard and some of my favorite memories are of playing with my sister and the neighborhood kids there. We also have a green space behind our house, but it is full of poison ivy. Blegh. However, we definitely have a good backyard for a zipline, and we’ve talked about it before. My dream is to have the zipline go from the tree house straight into the pool! Unfortunately, we don’t have a pool…. 🙂
Oooo! I want to see your zipline when you get it up and running. 🙂 Darn that poison ivy! I wish there were an easy way to get rid of that stuff…
And I love green space! So excited that you guys have some, too!
how fun!!!!
