sweet stuff…
Making and decorating gingerbread houses can be as detailed or simple as you want it to be.
There are all kinds of recipes out there for making gingerbread from scratch with templates and ideas for decorating. There are also kits. You can buy everything you need in one little box.
We took the kit route.
It looked fun and it was all contained in one place. No baking. No cooking, No measuring. I just had to add some water to the frosting mixture and we were set to assemble and decorate. I liked that. I got my kit at Target (they are sold out online but here is a different kit on amazon).
My sister makes a whole fun two days of it and has a party. Each of her kids gets to invite one friend and she makes gingerbread from scratch and cuts out each piece of the house. She has templates that are about as old as her kids and it’s amazing and fun to see her work with her kids. They get creative with the decorating choosing all kinds of candy to make doors and windows. They are architects of gingerbread villages.
You can also create cute little houses from graham crackers.
If you want some of the flexibility of building and creating your house but not so much of the baking; I think this is the perfect solution. You can see how on Kelly’s DIY Days of Christmas.
Happy House Building!

Davina
