It’s the first lazy morning in a long time that we are all home. Charlotte family photographer
There is bustling and talking in the kitchen. I hear bowls clanking, the silverware drawer opening. There’s a sound of baking busyness. I smell something cooking and I’m taken back to my own magical summer vacations.Charlotte family photographer
The warm, happy smell of waffle batter from the waffle maker is filling every corner of our home. I hear Emmett’s boy-man voice rumbling low in the kitchen saying it’s his turn to make a waffle. Emma’s raspy little girl voice is talking about nothing and everything; calling to the dog, telling Cocoa she is so pretty and such a good little missie. Her chatter doesn’t stop.
When I get downstairs I see Miriam completely engrossed in Birds and Blocks…on my phone. I had wondered where it disappeared to. Grace has a mountain of crayons next to her. She is still working on a project she started last night involving a two page spread of mountains, trees, and hand drawn fairies that we started together. She’s obsessed and doesn’t even notice I’m in the kitchen. Which is really saying something since her 6th sense is knowing where I’m located at all times in case she needs to give me a hug or tell me I’m her best friend in all the world.
The kitchen is a happy hum with the summer sunshine streaming through the windows. The waffle iron has steam rising from it. We are all laughing about blue and pink waffles and everyone is wondering if Emma’s lumpy batter will taste good. She assures us it’s delicious as she devours her syrup-less waffle.
Mike walks in the kitchen and with his lips still warm from sleeping he lays a kiss on me and walks to the fridge.
And this feel so good…to have everyone in the kitchen oblivious to how wonderful this moment is…which makes it even more wonderful…
it feels like magic. charlotte family photographer
