how do you like to get love?
Eye opening is a great word to describe this little book, The Five Love Languages. Mike and I read it years ago and took the test (although we are going to take it again tonight…I want to see if the results have changed…).
Our love languages:
Mike’s was a tie between: Words of Affirmation and Touch
Mine: Time Together
What is your love language? What is your true love’s language? I thought you’d never ask! Take the tests:
You’ll discover (page down a little for details on each language) what your love language means and how you like to receive love. You’ll find out some insightful things about yourself.
The best part about this little quiz (it will take about 10-15 minutes for each of you) is that you get to learn what makes the person you love feel the most loved.
So maybe you’ve been doing the dishes for someone who really needs to have you compliment them like crazy.
Or possibly you’ve been giving gifts to someone whose love tank is filled up by a hug or a touch on the arm as you walk by.
Like I said…it might rattle your world.
Once you take the test each of you spend 10 minutes making a list of your favorite ways to receive love based on your dominant love language.
Now, give your list to your spouse and you take your spouse’s list.
Spend the rest of the evening giving your spouse their gift of love by choosing things from their list. (See how many times you can fill them up with love from their list for the week until your next date night.)
Have fun!
And I want to hear what your love language is!! Tell me in the comments!! (Pretty Please.)
Happy Date Night!
xoxo,
Davina

Thanks, Chriselda! I had my kids take the tests, too. I’m going to blog about that soon. 🙂 You are so right. This is so insightful! Even with my kids knowing them like I do just having that test point out what they need makes it stay in my mind so much better.
Read this book years ago. Could probably use a refresher. Mine is Words of Affirmation. By a landslide. I’m not surprised though and unfortunately my husband struggles with this one, which is why it is mine I think. My husband is a “point out the faults first” kind of guy. With everything. Don’t get me wrong, I know he loves me because I recognize it in other things he does. When he does praise me it can fill my love tank up for weeks! :)He is a very analytical guy and doesn’t even see it as negative, he sees it as “pointing out room for improvement”. He thinks he is helping! 🙂 lol I’m a more emotional, impulsive, expressive person. It works though. I’m definitely having him take this tonight!!
Oh Nicole, I wanted to respond right away when I read this and now here I am just getting here because I wanted to have something really good to say. Did your husband take the test? What was his love language? Were you surprised? Was he? What did he say about your love language? I’m so glad that you still see his love for you in the other things he does and that you understand the way he sees the world. I’m hoping that the same understanding and grace is what he gives you after taking the test. I can’t wait to hear. I hope you’ll come back to this post and tell me. 🙂
Very interesting. Mine was “quality time,” with “words of affirmation” and “touch” tying for second. I think it was pretty accurate for me. Now I just need to get Jay to take the quiz! I think I know what his will be, but it’ll be interesting to see if I’m right or not. 🙂
We are the same with quality time! Mike and I didn’t end up getting to have our date so we still need to do a retake. I’m wondering if mine is still quality time… And what did you find out was Jay’s??? I’m dying to know over here! 🙂
Great post—thanks for spreading the word!
