Charlotte Today was so fun!
A little over a week ago I had the opportunity to share some photo tips with Colleen and Eugene, the hosts of the morning show, Charlotte Today! I completely enjoyed the time I got to spend with them.
In the Charlotte Today segment below I share 3 tips (and a bonus one) about how to take great photos of your kids at home. The second one may surprise you.
If you’re a parent whose children run away or groan or give that super painful smile every time you get out the camera, you’ll want to try these tips. They are super doable for anyone with a camera. With a little practice you’ll find you’re taking photos that have the thing you hope you’re capturing when you get out your camera: feeling.
Take a look at the Charlotte Today segment below and let me know in the comments which tip is your favorite or if you have a question about any of the tips:

behind the scenes
Getting to see the behind the scenes of a tv program was so fun. I was on the show several years ago and I’m impressed with how relaxed everyone is on set. I don’t know about you, but I always imagine that they are having to run to the next set between takes or on commercial breaks but everyone sits and chats casually. The photo below was taken while we were on a commercial break! haha! I they weren’t like, “Hurry, quick! We have to be fast!” They just said, “Come on over. We’d love to take a photo with you.” I love getting to see other professional people doing their thing and doing it so naturally.
This past weekend at my Day in the Life session in Utah, the 8 year old girls said to me as we were walking back to their cherry tree, “There are a lot of things I really like about you being here. My parents said that they would get you a hotel but you said no because you want to be here with us. Also, you’re like our friend who has a lot of fun with us and takes pictures of us. I like that.”
For me, I thought, “Those are my favorite things about being with and photographing a family!” Hearing an 8 year old so clearly say what’s cool about a Day in the Life session made my day.
what you do is awesome
Maybe the same is true for you, too. Maybe you make what you do look super easy…whether you’re a professional who goes into the city to work everyday or you are a stay at home mom or you’re trying to juggle a business and family from home. I have a feeling you have people who are in awe of you, too.
Know that you’re doing awesome things in your life (and I’d love to photograph you doing them! (-wink-).
Thinking about school starting right now is no fun, I know! I wanted to give you a little heads up, though, with this feature the Huffington Post did on me and some other photographers for first day of school photo tips. You can keep it in the back of your mind ready to go for when August/September roll around.
