driving…
I’m driving a couple of my kids to the 4th place today that’s just one of many stops along our routetoday.
Miriam needs to get her new glasses adjusted and Grace is along for the ride. They are having a very detailed and intense discussion about a variety of books. Already the two of them have covered 4-5 books since we got back into the car 5 minutes ago.
As the minutes pass Grace is retelling, in great depth, the storyline of a book that includes a D-U-M-B (spelled out by Gracie every time because she would never actually say this despicable word) pig. The D-U-M-B (the adjective used in the book) pig does many ridiculous things, apparently, and in a very animated fashion (Grace’s hands are flying all around and her facial expressions are dramatic and hilarious).
This moment, right now, is one of my favorite things to listen to…my kids having hearty, inrapt conversations with each other that don’t involve any adults.
There are times when I so want to put my 2 cents in but I know that if I do the spell will be broken. The world they are wrapped up in at this moment will immediately dissolve away and what I love about their back and forth dialogue will be gone.
I am like a person shaking a snow globe; knowing that what makes it so magical is watching from the outside. And so I store away, in my mind, those bewitching moments that only happen when I am an outsider looking in at my children who are in a land far, far away…
What are some of your favorite moments through out the day?
