It’s road tripping time!
This month is a great time to take a family road trip whether it’s right after school on a Friday or the long Thanksgiving holiday.
This cute family and I took a little road trip right here in Clover, SC. You’ve seen them before when I photographed the birth of sweet Miss Emery a little over a year ago here, here, here and their family.
We took our mini trip on a perfect fall day. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the bright sun kept us warm all afternoon. Even though summer flowers had already settled down for their winter’s nap the leaves on the trees were just starting to take the stage with their colors.
I adore the Jones. They are so relaxed with one another and just love to be together. Every time I’m with them we fall into comfortable conversation.
Leading up to this photo shoot I loved the opportunities that Alexas and I had to chat on the phone about all of our ideas, pieces we found to bring to the session, and creative activities to do on our roadtrip. Every time we would talk we’d get so excited that I’d want the shoot to be that day.
In the end, as Alexas predicted, the shoot would come together in the most perfect way. And it definitely did!
We put together some ideas here for you when you take your road trip this month.
And don’t worry there’s more to show you from this Family Adventure session with the Jones so stay tuned to the blog. You’ll be seeing them again very soon!
Corraling all that stuff:
I don’t know about you but the thing I cringe about the most is the way the kids things pile up during a road trip. When we stop at a rest stop of the gas station the kids climb all over each other’s things and then DVD players and stuffed animals fall out the van door when they jump out into the fresh air.
I love this idea for keeping everything in one place in the car.
Just fill the pockets of an over the door shoe organizer (I found mine at Target and cut off the rows that I didn’t need) with stuffed animals, games, dvds, ipods, snacks in ziploack bags, bottles of water, books, crayons, and sketch books. Now your kids will have easy access (and hopefully a place to step when they make a pit stop).
Thanks to Ohdeedoh! for this ingenuitive road trip idea!

No road trip is complete without some fun games.
My girls and I made these creative maze games from old cd cases and Bendaroos (thank you to Terri from GiddyGiddy for this perfect road trip game). Getting the kids involved in preparation for a road trip ups the excitement and fun.
A road side pit stop….
doesn’t have to be just a potty break. You can have a little fun stretching your legs and playing some games together. Pull together some items that would make a fun rest stop and put them in a vintage soda crate.
Some items you may want to include are:
a clipboard with tic, tac, toe
a frisbee
some bubbles
a ball to roll around
a sketch book to draw something you’ve seen on your trip
some refreshing drinks
a little smackeral of something delicious to eat (cherries, baby quiche, goldfish, apple slices)
a little music to dance to on the top of a mountain at the look out point
